Atari++
A Unix and Win32 based emulator of the Atari eight bit computers, namely the Atari 400 and 800, the Atari 400XL, 800XL and 130XE, and the Atari 5200 game console. The emulator is auto-configurable and will compile on a variety of systems (Win32, Linux, Solaris, Irix).
Xformer 2000
Obsolete, but good emulator for Atari 8-bit home computer systems. Author of this emulator also owns original ROM images, usable for other Atari emulators.

A8E is a freeware Atari 800 XL emulator. It uses the SDL library for the user interface and the audio and graphics (via OpenGL) output.

Mads Assembler
MADS is a multi-pass crossassembler designed for 6502 and 65816 processors. Binaries are generated mainly for Atari 8-bit systems (supported are AtariDosII and SpartaDOS X formats).
Mad Pascal Compiler

xasm
A freeware 6502 cross-assembler Windows with original syntax extensions. It is mainly targeted at Atari 8-bit computers, but it can be also used for programming Atari 2600/5200/Lynx, Commodore C64, Apple ][ and others.
FastBasic
This is a fast interpreter for the BASIC language on the Atari 8-bit computers and the Atari 5200 console.
cc65
cc65 is a complete cross development package for 65(C)02 systems, including a powerful macro assembler, a C compiler, linker, librarian and several other tools. It is based on a C compiler that was originally adapted for the Atari 8bit computers by John R. Dunning.
ATasm

The Graph2Font (G2F) program treats the image as fields with dimensions of 4x8, 2x8, 8x8 pixels. At the beginning this program had been used only to convert graphics to chars but now it also allows you to do multicolor graphics for the 8-bit Atari.
